Crew bar parties, early morning safety drills, friends of all nationalities, music, music and more music. We have had some amazing times onboard and feel so lucky to be able to balance both worlds as we currently do. Different from a bands regular work schedule on land which is mostly weekend based, cruise ship companies require most musicians to perform 7 nights a week for up to 6 months at a time! In other words, work hard… play hard! Currently RubyJude do one crusie ship contract per year and use it as a chance to travel, take a break from the hectic life here “on land” and to play music nightly, which is actually one of the great perks of the gig.
We have been working with world renowned company Princess Cruises since 2009 and have been lucky enough to complete 8 contracts with them in this time. This has allowed us to travel to The Mediterranean, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Scandinavia, Greenland, Iceland, China, South Korea, Australia and many more beautiful parts of the world. In order to work in cruise industry there are many criteria that a band needs to fill. To name but a few…. talent (obvs!), energy, work ethic, professionalism and …….. did I mention… more energy, more talent and even more music! Working a setlist of 300+ songs means that the band need to be SUPER versatile, and easily cover genre specific events ranging from 70’s Disco, 50&60s R’n’Roll and Country, to itinerary specific events such as “Carnivale De Venezia” and “The Love Boat Disco Deck Party”. Furthermore we provide cocktail music for Captains events, Formal night extravaganzas and tribute nights with the music of The Beatles or The Motown Era.
It’s an amazing experience as a performer to provide high quality entertainment to people during some of the happiest holidays of their lives. We help make unforgettable nights onboard and although the commitment and work load are somewhat excessive, time spent in far flung paces with like minded musicians and friends have made for some unforgettable memories of our own.
